Trading platform prototype

Demonstrating product viability to investors

Highlights

Any specification, no matter how detailed, can't cover the full range of possible interactions required for such a complex product. I really enjoyed thrashing out the nuance of Op-Trade’s interactions with the Opetek team.

I created a design system that would enable Opetek to continue to improve across the next stage of its development.

Challenge

Opetek was an early-stage startup, looking for investors for Op-Trade, their derivative trading platform. With a unique positioning and qualified technical architecture, they needed the vision to be made tangible.

Op-Trade was technically sound, so what was needed was to bring the specification to life so that investors would be able to ‘see’ the solution to their problems.

Action

I worked with the the Opetek team to fully storyboard the solution. This involved rapidly learning enough about high finance derivative brokerage.

Once the initial storyboard/user flows were accepted, work began on an atomic design system for Op-Trade.

The design system needed to allow for clarity in the time-critical, high value transactions that would take place, as well as being on-brand: inspiring confidence in both the security and efficiency of the system.

The interface had to allow for complex interactions in a highly information-dense context. I made sure that elements had sufficient contrast in colour to aid legibility, and enough breathing space so that didn't feel cramped, without overly compromising on information density.

I used the design system to make a clickable prototype that would showcase the primary features that Op-Trade offers.

Outcome

Opetek have secured their first round of funding.

Investor feedback on the prototype has reportedly been very positive. This is the best possible outcome as far as my involvement with the project goes.

Stockbrokers are notoriously time-poor, so user testing was sadly not possible during this project. The Opetek team are themselves brokers, so I used them as proxy users during prototype development.
